You’ve tirelessly worked all year long perfecting your splits, tour jeté, cartwheels, and technique — and now that summer is here, you may be feeling less flexible and out of shape. The good news? Summer doesn’t have to mean starting over. In fact, it’s one of the best opportunities you have to get ahead before the new season begins.
Here are some incredible ways to stay in shape this summer and hit the ground running in the fall:
Dance Camps
There are some amazing summer programs and camps for dancers of all ages — and we have three incredible ones coming up right here at the studio! Our Next Level Technique Camp, AcroDance Camp and Creator’s Camp are perfect opportunities to sharpen your skills, try something new, and stay immersed in dance all summer long. Make the most of every opportunity available to you, both here and in the surrounding areas. Spots are limited, so register early!
Private Lessons & Coaching
Summer is the perfect time to schedule private lessons. One-on-one training allows you to focus on exactly what you need most — whether that’s technique, performance quality, artistry, or a specific skill you’ve been working to master. Without the demands of a full class schedule, private sessions give you and your coach the time and space to go deep. Reach out to schedule your summer sessions now — spots fill up quickly!
Solo Choreography Sessions for the 2027 Competition Season
If you’re planning to compete in 2027, summer is the ideal time to get your solo choreography started. Getting a head start means more time to learn, clean, and truly own your piece before the competition season arrives. We are now scheduling solo choreography sessions for the 2027 season — contact us to reserve your spot. The earlier you start, the more prepared and confident you’ll be when it counts.
Stretch at Home
Flexibility doesn’t maintain itself — and with warmer weather, it’s actually safer and easier to work on your personal flexibility at home. Stretch while reading, watching TV, or hanging out with friends. Just remember: only attempt stretches you’re comfortable with, don’t push too hard, and never hold a stretch to the point of pain. Consistency matters far more than intensity.
Exercise
It’s important for dancers to keep their bodies moving during the summer break. Whether you take up yoga for flexibility and body control, Pilates for core strength, light weight training for muscle tone, or simply enjoy daily walks — staying active keeps your body ready to perform when the season starts back up.
Choreograph Your Own Dances
Have fun writing your own pieces — solo, with a friend, or in a small group. Take it a step further and put on a mini performance for family and friends. It’s a wonderful way to stretch your creativity, stay active, and remember why you love to dance in the first place.
Whatever you choose this summer, commit to it. Get enough sleep (yes, even without a 7 AM school alarm), eat well, and remember that moderation is key. The dancers who arrive in the fall ready to go are the ones who made the most of their summer — and that dancer can absolutely be you.
